Global leader in vegetable and ornamental seeds

Sakata Seeds Europe, global leader in vegetable and ornamental seeds, is the  European subsidiary of the Japanese group Sakata, present in Europe since 1990 and in Languedoc-Roussillon since 1998.

The headquarters for the holding company for Europe is based in Montpellier, the vegetable seed business in le Gard (Uchaud)
and the flower bulbs business in Denmark.

With the commercial subsidiaries, the combined business of Sakata Europe employs nearly 350 people in 15 countries, including around a hundred in Uchaud. Turnover 2011: €32M at the site in le Gard.

In 2012, SAKATA invested 7.5 million euros in its le Gard production site

To support its growth in its markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the company has chosen its Uchaud site to build its future European R&D centre and increase its seed processing and conditioning production capacity.

The local climatic conditions are in fact favourable or conducive for evaluating the performance of new varieties and ones that are typical of the Mediterranean markets where the Sakata group is present - the plantations are exposed to drought, frost, wind and heavy rain - allowing the seed grower to develop stronger and more productive new species, with innovative methods of selection. This investment strengthens the regional presence of SAKATA Seeds Europe and will eventually create around twenty additional jobs.
